Northern Ireland’s first bean-to-bar craft chocolate makers and the oldest in Ireland, NearyNógs is a small batch-crafted chocolate producer on the Mourne Coast. This family-friendly chocolate factory has breath-taking views of the Irish Sea, Carlingford Lough & the Mourne Mountains and take great pride in their chocolate making. Every process is meticulously controlled so that every cacao bean’s origin and fine flavour shines through.
They ethically source sustainable cacao beans, supporting the rainforest alliance and they practice direct trade where possible. NearyNógs pays above market value for cacao beans, to ensure that the cacao farmers receive a living wage, ensuring the survival and growth of the cacao industry and the farmers’ livelihoods.
Established in 2011, NearyNógs is a family business that was originally launched as a fundraiser for the family’s eldest daughter. Travelling to India to work with charities helping orphans, she discovered the chocolate market, which quickly became a passion and she spotted a business opportunity.
Shortly after, her younger sister became life-threateningly ill and needed urgent medical treatment in London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital. This resulted in the formation of the business which supported the family and offered flexibility for care. The Neary family work alongside a small group of friends and family, to bring their products to the communities that support them.

Challenge
Customers buy NearyNógs’ product because of the unique quality of craft chocolate and bean. The company’s manufacturing process is slower than mass-produced chocolate brands but the result is superior in quality and taste. The family support the supply chain and their farmers receive 5-10 times the market value for their cacao beans, which in turn sustains their businesses, communities and the wider chocolate industry. While their product is excellent, NearyNógs find collecting payments difficult, expensive and often error-prone.

As an Irish company, NearyNógs has to handle international payments and other currencies as they also supply shops in the EU and UK.
